Ralph McTell & Wizz Jones
About Time Too Dave Burrluck, Gear Editor There aren’t that many stalwarts of the British 60s and 70s folk scene left now, sadly, but McTell and Jones are the real deal and their second album of duets and solo pieces is full of unvarnished charm. The camaraderie between these two old muckers is clear throughout as they tackle some gritty American traditional folk and blues – the kind of stuff they learned in formative years but which sounds all the more powerful delivered with the weight of experience behind it, such as Jimmie Rodgers’ Any Old Time and I’m So Lonesome
I Could Cry by Hank Williams. The guitar work is full of knowing, well-seasoned play and it makes for a simple yet surprisingly moving collection from two deeply experienced players who are obviously having a good time. Great stuff.
