Jazz sophistication at its suave apex Documenting Wes’s epochal 1965 performance at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and restored by Resonance in collaboration with the Office of French Radio and Television, In Paris sees this landmark performance granted the status of an official release, with permission from Wes’s family. And what a performance it is. Straight out of the gate with Four On Six, Wes is brimming with invention and pure style – never pausing and yet firing out eloquent statements on the instrument with the wit of a raconteur. By contrast, the beauty of The Girl Next Door is a study in elegant, melodic portrait-painting. From first to last, In Paris is pure class. [JD] Standout track: The Girl Next Door For fans of: Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, Joe Pass
