Ryan Adams has recently previewed not just one but two pieces of signature gear on his Instagram account. The first looks to be his long-awaited signature Strat featuring a glossy black finish, multicoloured binding and a ‘Strat’ logo that is lifted from Fender’s HM model from the 80s. And while demoing a host of songs at Electric Lady studios in New York during July, he also showed off a pedal collaboration with Walrus Audio called Defcon 4. It looks like it could be an EQ pedal designed for switching between single-coil and humbucker guitars – as Adams often does.

Tony Iommi has confirmed he’s keen for Black Sabbath to reassemble to play the 2022 Commonwealth Games in their home city of Birmingham. “I think that it would be a great thing to do to help represent Birmingham,” he told Birmingham Live. “I’m up for it! Let’s see what happens!”

Fresh from working with Rob Chapman on the Titan overdrive, Mythos has collaborated with Joey Landreth on the limited edition High Road Fuzz ($179). It features only a single control; Output, that sets your overall volume and you then control the fuzz level and tone with your own guitar controls. More info is at www. mythospedals.com.

Eddie Van Halen has announced three Eruption tribute model guitars to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Van Halen’s eponymous debut. “Of all the guitars I’ve ever built, the white and black guitar will always be my favourite,” says EVH, “because it did all the things I needed a guitar to do, which prior to that guitar did not exist. The ‘78 Eruption tribute is as close to my original in sound and feel as humanly possible. I’m incredibly proud of it.” The Super ’78 will be a limited run of eight with the back headstocks signed by Eddie, as well as the legend playing Eruption on each guitar.

Black Country Communion have plans for album five, according to drummer Jason Bonham. The band – completed by guitarist/ vocalist Joe Bonamassa, vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes and keyboardist Derek Sherinian – released BCCIV in 2017. “I believe we’re gonna go back in the studio again in January,” he told Iron City Rocks podcast. “That’s what I heard.”
