A big thank you for your excellent feature on ‘30 Albums Every Guitarist Should Own’ [issue 438, October]. I downloaded some Danny Gatton on your recommendation and was simply blown away by his dynamic style. I’ve also revisited Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop, which was gathering dust in my CD collection.
As for my own suggested inclusion, check out Bath guitarist Innes Sibun’s That’s What
The Blues Can Do (I think only available on vinyl) – it’s a tour de force. David Hughes, via email Thanks David, Danny Gatton really was something special and not a few people think he’s the best there’s ever been. Incredibly sad how he took his own life, especially when he had so much talent – but it’s some small consolation that we can enjoy his mastery of the Telecaster and share it with new generations of fans through his recordings. And we heartily agree with your suggestion about Innes Sibun who’s an absolute powerhouse performer live, never giving less than his utmost. We urge you to go see him in the Malone Sibun band next time they’re down your way.
