Great little EL84 amps

-

Orange Brent Hinds Terror head £498 The tooth some, surprisingly potent 15- watt Tiny Terror, designed by Adrian Emsley, kicked off a hugely successful family of affordable amps with great tone that sold more than 30,000 worldwide. Though the original is now discontinued, we heartily recommend the latest additions: the Rocker 15Terror (£499) takes a Gear Of The Year award this issue, and the fiercely gained but great sounding Brent Hinds Terror at £498.

Vox AC15C1 £512 The affordable but crunch-packed little brother to the AC30 has been a staple of the Guitarist demo studio for years. It’s hard to beat it for edgy but warm drive at lower volumes, and it’s perfectly gig-worthy for smaller venues. The basic C1 combo version, with its tremolo circuit ,reverb and single Celestion G12 greenback speaker, is well priced, too.

Victory Sheriff 22 head £799 Victory’s lunchbox heads pack a lot of value and deft design into their small enclosures. The V 22 aims for crisp, hard hitting style tones inspired by the early years of Marshall. Bright, punchy and aggressive, this two-channel, master-volume head is a little slice of black gold for Angus-inspired players.
