Clapton performs in his pre-deity manifestation Eric Clapton left The Yardbirds in 1965, going on to write the book on British blues guitar with John Mayall. This new compilation covers the period that can be considered his formative years with The Yardbirds – the run-up to that mighty leap. All the material on this double-CD package has been previously available and so archivists eager to uncover hidden treasure need not apply. Having said that, collecting this archive material together in one place – particularly the section featuring blues legend Sonny Boy Williamson live at The Crawdaddy Club in ’63 – is always welcome.
