A BETTER CONNECTION
For me, the biggest gamechanger this year was, by far, Dan steinhardt’s thegigrig g2 custom pedalboard build. to begin with, i was absolutely blown away by how great the ’board looked, but the first thing that grabbed me when i plugged in was the depth and clarity of sounds. many of my pedals have never sounded so good.
When i’m interviewing pedal designers and asking them what their best tone tip is, they often respond with, “always use a high-quality power supply,” and with my pedals getting the right kind of juice, i can, at last, hear them as their creators intended. What really sets the g2 apart, though, is the creative freedom that comes with being able to instantaneously switch between any combination of effects, without compromising on sound quality. the possibilities are, as they say, endless.
have you ever rediscovered a piece of gear in your own collection and been reminded of why you bought it in the first place? as guitarists, making the most of what we’ve already got is underrated. the g2 has broadened my horizons, but not in terms of sending me off on a completely different tangent; rather it has enhanced my connection to the gear i already own and expanded its creative potential massively.
