We were impressed with Free The Tone’s Marshallstyle Fire Mist overdrive, from its heavyweight Integrated Series of pedals, when we reviewed it back in issue 440. We were all the more excited to take delivery of its stablemate, the Steel String Slinger, with no prizes for guessing that it’s aimed at punchy, high-headroom tones inspired by Messrs Dumble and Vaughan. Look out for a full review soon, but first impressions are of a tremendously dynamic, low-gain drive with hods of clarity and volume on tap, plus tough build. SRV fans take note… www.freethetone.com
