By 1982, Toto had become a more slick production, involving orchestral overdubs and more mainstream ‘pop’ type material. Steve’s guitar is still all over this, though, as anyone who’s ever heard Rosanna will testify. Elsewhere, I Won’t Hold You Back (also written and sung by Steve) features a melodic, restrained guitar solo that was definitely an alternative to the pyrotechnics that were gaining pace elsewhere.
