Gilbert, Gales and Townsend all confirmed for UK Guitar Show 2019
After the success of last year, we knew we had to come back with an even bigger and better event for the 2019 UK Guitar Show. And so we’re excited to have Paul Gilbert, Eric Gales and Devin Townsend onboard to help us deliver it. Gilbert, of Racer-X and Mr Big fame, will show how diverse a player he is during his masterclass on Saturday 21 September. “I like to take difficult things apart and make them easier,” Paul tells Guitarist. “And I want to inspire with new ideas that open up your fretboard and your ears. I’ll open a few doors on how a metal person can get into the blues house, and even find a comfy chair. And I’ll show some forbidden jazz that even a teenage Black Sabbath fan like me can dig. Don’t worry, this jazz is nothing that would allowed in a hotel lobby.”
And don’t fear if you’re a fan of the four-letter word… “We will rock, of course,” adds Paul. “That’s in my musical DNA, and all of my technique and tone were formed by years of playing with a loud fire-breathing amp and a hard-hitting drummer.”
That same day you’ll also be able to witness the maverick talents of progressive hero Devin Townsend, whose inspiring and hilarious solo show we were wowed by earlier this year when he toured the UK. Bass aces Nick Beggs (Steven Wilson) and John Patitucci will also perform on the Saturday.
Another name who should be familiar to Guitarist readers – and indeed anyone who’s been keeping tabs on contemporary blues players in the last 20 years – is Eric Gales.
