PRS HX AMPS FROM £2,799

We’ve heard of the PRS Experience, but now the Maryland builder has a very particular experience in its sights with the HX Series amplifiers, designed specifically to chase down Jimi Hendrix’s late-60s tone. With two heads on offer (the 50-watt HX 50 and the pictured 100-watt HX 100), Paul Reed Smith and amp designer Doug Sewell were granted access to one of Hendrix’s Marshall Super Leads at the Museum Of Pop Culture in Seattle. From here, they came up with PRS’s new ‘Hendrix Touring Circuit’ designed to give you high-end clarity without becoming harsh. “These amps are intended to sound the same as Hendrix’s touring rig, not look the same,” says Paul. “We feel privileged to reach back into history and bring something special to the current music landscape.” Other HX Series features include EL34 output valves, three-band EQ with presence and a three-way Bright switch, plus switchable high-mid frequencies. www.prsguitars.com

ORANGE OE-1 CUSTOM GUITAR £3,800

You might associate Orange’s Ade Emsley with the other end of the jack cable, but now the amp-design guru has teamed up with Blast Cult master luthier Jason Burns to offer the Orange OE-1 Custom Guitar. Designed by Emsley and handmade to order at Blast Cult’s HQ in London, the single-cut guitar features a neck profile that flows from a V at the money frets into a C-shape towards the dusty end. The body is crafted from Jason’s favoured source of seasoned mahogany, chosen specifically for its light weight to avoid the need for chambering. Other features include a choice of Mojo’s Filtertrons or Staple Alnico Soapbars, ebony fretboard, ABM Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece, Grover tuners and chessboard binding. The Orange OE-1 Custom Guitar is now available to order. www.orangeamps.com
