UNIVERSAL AUDIO PEDALS £TBC

Universal Audio has its attention turned towards our pedal boards once more, and this time the kings of vintage digitisation are focusing on dynamics, modulation and time-based effects. The Max preamp/dual compressor pairs UA’s studio preamp emulations with six compressor models, alongside Attack/Ratio and Release controls; the Galaxy puts authentic spacey tape echo and reverb effects at our feet; and the Del Verb, reassuringly described as an “ambience companion” will wrap us in a firm hug of multi-mode, vintageinspired delay and reverb. They will be shipping soon.

VOX MV50 BRIAN MAY AND AM PLUG BRIAN MAY £149/£54.99

Alongside Brian May’s Red Special, his treble-boosted AC30 forms the cornerstone of his unique tone. And now Vox is offering a couple of affordable slices of the Queen legend’s sound with its new MV50 Brian May and am Plug Brian May.

The MV50 Brian May (£149) takes Korg’s 50-watt mini-head and gives it a red makeover. Powered in the preamp by Korg’s Nu tube mini-valve tech, it features a similar feature set to the standard AC model: gain, tone and volume controls on the front, Flat/Deep EQ switching on the back alongside a headphone/line out and speaker outputs. Crucial, though, is the inclusion of a KAT treble-boost circuit. Meanwhile, the Vox am Plug Brian May (£54.99) adds a treble booster, delay, phaser and chorus to the am Plug AC30. And we get the We

Will Rock You clap/stomp rhythms. Available individually, or with a speaker cab, keychain and postcards (£259/£159). www.voxamps.co.uk
