2019 LAUGHING JACK GREENOCK SHIRAZ

Sourced from a single block of shiraz on the Kalleske estate in the western Barossa known as East Block, aged for 20 months in 40% new French oak, 40% seasoned French oak, 10% new American oak and 10% seasoned American oak hogsheads. A great example of classic Western Ridge latent power here. Dense blackberry, black cherry and plum characters build in intensity, gather both spice and pace before compressing and accelerating to the exit, framed by superfine tannin before coast slowly into the distance. Lovely stuff. DB 14.5% alc.

What will drinkers be rewarded with if they put this wine in their cellar? And at what point do you believe this wine will be at its peak for drinking?

We personally enjoy the Greenock Shiraz around eight to 12 years. At this point we find the wine’s tannins and acidity are harmonious with the rich fruit. From the first vintage of 1999 the Greenock has proven to cellar for up to 25 years.
