2021 MCKELLAR RIDGE ESTATE SHIRAZ VIOGNIER

Always a good show of deep plum fruit and spice with the French oak barriques (25% new) adding cedary flavour and support. It’s delightfully spicy and a little peppery, with tangy, juicy acidity and tannins holding sway. Another year in bottle will have this in complete harmony, although it is already a smart wine. What will drinkers be rewarded with if they put this wine in their cellar? And at what point do you believe this wine will be at its peak for drinking?

A stunning cool climate shiraz co-fermented with 3.5% viognier. It’s displaying generous ripe red fruit, subtle pepper and spice, and an enticing floral lift. Cellar up to 2035, however, the sweet spot is around seven years when the fruit and spice integrates with silky tannins.
