2021 GRENACHE

95/5% grenache/mataro off 25yo vines, destemmed with some whole berries. Aged for 10 months in seasoned French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Bright red purple in the glass with aromas of juicy plum, red cherry fruits, exotic spice, gingerbread, violets, earth and red licorice. The fruit weight is spot on, pure yet with a distinct sense of space. The aromas transpose over onto the palate, which shows a chalky tannin texture and shimmering acid line. It’s a cracker. DB 14.5% alc.

I love the way grenache develops in the bottle. The lifted spice characters and the fine tannins take greater prominence as the wines age, transitioning from wonderful primary fruit to layered complexities. A pure wine from an outstanding vintage – all set for a long life ahead.
