What excites you most about Marlborough right now?
Pinot noir is making a statement in Marlborough. Vines are getting older and winemakers are taking it seriously, with some excellent wines as a result. Chardonnay is making an impact and lots of alternative varieties are emerging. Marlborough sauvignon blanc is evolving through the exploration of single-site selections and terroir. Also, more eateries are turning to local and artisan producers, with a vibrant and dynamic dining scene.
How do you sum up your approach at Villa Maria?
Villa Maria has been at the forefront of winemaking in New Zealand from the word go. We have vineyards and wineries in all major wine regions.
