2019 Kilikanoon Wines Duke Reserve Grenache, Clare Valley

Warmer or cooler vintages should not be quickly categorised into ‘good’ or ‘bad’, because they are merely an overlay onto the vines, clones and varieties that are planted under that sun, that year. Warmer years will suit varieties like grenache, as it clearly does here. Boiled raspberry humbug, rhubarb, Szechuan peppercorn, curry powder and an array of fresh garden herbs on both the nose and palate. It’s a big wine, but there’s hedonistic elements that elevate it, untold. No doubt a decant will allow this to open even further. Recommended. EL 14.5% alc.
