2021 Walsh & Sons Little Poppet White, Margaret River

45/45/10% semillon/sauvignon blanc/ chardonnay. Cloudy in the glass and a lot more yellow than previous vintages, but it smells the same – and I am 100% here for that. This has the bitter, slinky slip that comes from skin contact (the semillon was fully fermented on skins); wild-yeast complexity; and the chardonnay component was barrel fermented, so that brings with it its own breadth and width. It’s lean and plump at the same time, and has a funny way of inspiring great voraciousness when drinking ... must be the salty acid and the cheesecloth/skincontact component.
