Fiano forever

-

I really enjoyed the showcase article by Erin Larkin on the very under-the-public-radar grape variety chenin blanc in your February/March issue. It made me think of another variety that could do with the same front cover exposure to bring it into the limelight as, like chenin blanc, it is very versatile and perfect for a warming Australian climate. That variety is fiano. Fiano is popping up on many winery cellar door lists but go into any of the major wine retailers and the selection is still very poor and dominated with Italian product. Just as pinot gris/grigio has proven a popular alternative to sauvignon blanc and chardonnay, I think it's time for fiano to get some vinous love and a wider audience.

Thank you, Halliday, for always coming up with relevant and interesting articles on all things wine, and for continuing to champion the underdog varieties that are worthy. Drinking wine should never be boring.
