2021 Leo Buring Leonay DWY17 Riesling, Eden Valley

-

Leo Buring is a famous name in the annals of Australian riesling history. Named after the epically titled Leo Buring Hermann Paul Leopold Buring, born in South Australia to German parents in 1876 and quite the winemaker, working for Penfolds before forming his own label in 1931. All the Leonay hallmarks are here: precision, detail, clarity and drive. What I really love about these wines is their tubular palate shape of achingly pure, limey fruit, topped with notes of Christmas lily and stone. The concentration on the palate is impressive, all compressed lime juice and floral top-notes, the wine coiling at first before accelerating off across the tongue with a cracking pace, leaving a finish that lingers beautifully. It’s a classic. DB 11% alc.
