2020 Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Clarendon Syrah, McLaren Vale

-

The best of the 3 subregional expressions, all crafted in a similar vein: ambient fermentation with some whole bunches and élévage in 2nd- and 3rd-pass French wood. An effortless flow from the attack to the finish, as echoes of the northern Rhône mesh with a warmer Australian idiom: red and blue fruits, bergamot, nori, sassafras, clove, turmeric, sandalwood and souk spice. This is really exceptional as far as syrah/shiraz goes in these parts. Mid-weighted feel. So easy to drink. A long, intricate glide. Gorgeous grape tannins. The oak, a mere addendum. Exceptional drinking. NG 14% alc.
