2021 Serrat Shiraz Viognier, Yarra Valley

-

70% Best’s old-block clone and 30% BVRC15 clone; 5% whole bunches and co-fermented with 5% viognier. A natural-yeast ferment with 15 days on skins and matured in 500L French oak, 25% new, for 11 months. A vibrant crimson purple. A truly wonderful set of wines from Tom Carson in 2021, cementing (not that it’s needed) his place as one of Australia’s best winemakers and

Tom and Nadège’s Serrat vineyard as a great, modern-day site. Seductive aromas of cherry plums, dark cherries and raspberries, graphite, sandalwood incense and star anise. Even better on the palate, which is creamy textured, bright, crunchy and perfectly balanced. The tannins are silken and long.

This seriously good and gorgeous wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 10–15 years, if not longer. PR 13.5% alc.
