I feel so lucky to be part of an industry in which getting dressed is about feeling good about yourself
as a woman. Some days I feel like putting a little more effort in and trying new silhouettes. I find that most of my styling ideas for shoots come from my day-to-day outfits, and if I get it wrong it’s usually only my team who see. Accessories have always played a huge role when it comes to styling my personal aesthetic. I’ve just purchased the Calvin Klein [205W39NYC] silver-capped Tex Chiara ankle boots. I love a good pair of black boots when I’m working on a shoot or running around during a busy week.when it comes to handbags, I’m excited by so many new accessory designers creating beautiful bags in interesting shapes, such as Building Block, Mlouye, Staud and Gabriela Hearst. I always thought I was more of a ’60s girl, but lately I’m drawn to more of a ’50s silhouette: a fuller skirt and a blouse tucked into a high-waisted pant. I find that due to the nature of my job, I spend a lot of the time in transit, either flying or on location behind the lens for brands, so when my outfit is more practical I think jewellery becomes the accent. I always wear at least one or two small gold necklaces, a classic gold watch and my vintage signet ring I purchased from a little store in the Eastvillage [in Manhattan]. I recently purchased the Céline Alphabet pendant necklace — I seem to have an obsession with monogrammed jewellery; I also have a beautiful earring with my initial ‘A’ from Ellery. I think Catherine O’hara’s wardrobe as the mother in Home Alone was kind of fabulous: ’80s
structured blazers, gold earrings, turtlenecks and wrap coats — what an ensemble. One of my favourite collections for pre-fall 2018 was The Row.
I just loved the simplicity of the pieces, the palette was a divine mixture of caramels, nudes and smoky hues, and I loved the textured coats. Coming from a background as an art gallery owner and fine artist, I’ve always had a strong affiliation with the art world. Over the years, our audience has grown a strong connection with my background as an artist and we’ve had so many requests, from the industry and our followers alike, to provide a way to purchase my artwork. I felt an excellent option would be to create a beautifully fitted, 100 per cent Australian-made organic cotton T-shirt featuring my artwork,‘the luxury of wearable art’ being our ethos. I was previously working as a sign-writer and was feeling a little creatively
unfulfilled. In my spare time I would paint large canvases, and one day I entered my work in an art show and won.that was the beginning of my career as a fine artist. There is some diversity to the way I work. I think, like many artists, I love to sketch, so many of my simple illustrations are more in the line-drawing genre, but I also love to paint in oils as well. I collect art books, so it’s really hard to pick a favourite one, but I do love the postmodernist era. Some of my favourite artists are Jean Arp, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. I’m very much a tomboy, so I like to keep my beauty routine simple and effective. For a long time, I’ve used Aliangé, by a good friend of mine, Dr Alison Jamieson.the quality of her products is next level, and it’s one of the only lines I’ve used on my skin and seen change with. I also love SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Chanel eyeliner and eye shadows.
