Blackburn proves age is no barrier
EXCELLENT weather greeted the 55 players who nominated for the Hobson’s Furniture Store Par event on Saturday.
At 95 years young, Harry Blackburn showed that age was no barrier to achieving winning scores with plus 5 to beat Carl Carulli on plus 4.
Alan Grieve was third with plus 3 and in fourth place was Paul Weston with plus 2.
It was a great achievement for Blackburn to achieve such an excellent result.
He showed during the past few weeks that he was approaching another win with some good performances.
His win was set up on the front nine where he scored Plus 5.
Carl Carulli, the Scroungers winner again, showed he plays at his best during the holidays when he has a chance to practice by coming runner-up.
His score was set up with birdies on holes two, six, 11 and 16.
Ladies winner was Margaret Palumbo with minus 2, beating Lyn Joyce on a countback.

TWENTY five players braved the wet and windy conditions to participate at a scroungers event on Wednesday, sponsored by Harley Wyatt.
Trophy donor Wyatt produced the best score on the day with 36 points, but as is the usual custom, he presented the winning prize to the runner-up Carl Carulli, who had 35 points to beat John Parton on a countback.
Dave O’Shaughnessy continued his previous Saturday form to score 34 points.
Scores were well below normal due to the conditions with a couple of heavy rainy squalls blowing across the course during the afternoon.
It was a day for the low handicappers with the three best scores coming from players in single figures.
Wyatt showed his prowess in the wind to produce two even nines of consistent golf.
This was a great effort for Wyatt because, being a fly-in fly-out worker he does not get too many chances to play golf.
Carulli usually finds his best form during the school holidays and once again has recorded a good score at the event.
