RISING star at the Waroona Demons Football Club Jayden Evans will be heading off to compete for WA later this month in the AFL boys 15 years and under championship in Adelaide.

The Demons Year 10 captain, Jayden was selected for the WA 15s Squad after five State try-out sessions for the competition from July 21 to 29.

The interstate squad has been training for the past five weeks including scratch matches with East and West Perth teams.

Jayden said he would be working on his fitness ahead of the competition.

“I’m trying to get real fit for the carnival, trying to get the best out of myself,” he said.

While he is keen to develop his skills as a midfielder, Jayden said he also wanted to build on his experience as a leader.

“I love getting the boys going, encouraging them and getting the best out of them,” he said.

Jayden said Demons club juniors president Darren Birch had been a great mentor to him.

“He’s always encouraging me and giving me advice on his experience of State competition,” Jayden said.

“How to be a good leader and to lead from the front.”

Jayden Evans has been a member of the Demons club since juniors at age four and has been selected as captain of his team three times.

He was also voted Best and Fairest in his grade for the past two years and was voted the Peel District Best and Fairest.

While he has been selected for the Peel Thunder Development Squad in the past, this will be Jayden’s first interstate competition.

“I’m very excited about it and can’t wait to travel with the team,” Jayden said.

He said he wanted to thank his parents, his club and the community for all their support in helping to get to the competition.
