Coordinators prepare for fire season
Bushfire Ready facilitators and coordinators in the Shire of Harvey held a meeting last Tuesday to discuss preparation for the bushfire season ahead.
DFES community emergency services manager for the shire Shaun Champ said the meeting was to make sure community leaders were on the same page and up to date.
“The purpose of the meeting was to get the coordinators and facilitators to prepare for the upcoming bushfire season,” he said. “We’re as ready as we can be.” Bushfire Ready coordinators are residents in charge of a local group of neighbours, and facilitators are in charge of the groups in a particular area and must be linked with a local fire brigade.
Bushfire Ready is a community driven program aimed at encouraging local residents to work together in preparing and protecting their families and properties against bush fires.
Mr Champ said the meeting was successful in providing further clarity between co-ordinators, facilitators and DFES.
“Thank you to all the facilita- tors, coordinators and volunteers for making it work,” he said. “We are always wanting to expand the program and anyone wanting to start a group can contact DFES or the Shire of Harvey.”
