Life mem­ber wears many hats for club

Brunswick Dis­trict Bowling Club has cel­e­brated its 60th an­niver­sary and ap­pointed Ross War­bur­ton as the lat­est life mem­ber.

Mr War­bur­ton said he first got in­volved with the club through the so­cial side as a teenager.

The new life mem­ber has worn many hats dur­ing his time with the club, in­clud­ing cap­tain, pres­i­dent, vice-pres­i­dent, chair­man of ground com­mit­tee and now trea­surer. He is also a board mem­ber for Bowls WA.

He has fol­lowed in his par­ents’ foot­steps – his fa­ther was club pres­i­dent and a found­ing mem­ber while his mother also re­ceived a life mem­ber­ship.

“Coun­try towns are all about that, fol­low­ing on gen­er­a­tion af­ter gen­er­a­tion,” Mr War­bur­ton said.

Dur­ing the club’s cel­e­bra­tions, Mr War­bur­ton’s fam­ily hid in the kitchen and sur­prised him as he was ap­pointed a life mem­ber.

“It felt bloody great, it was a real hon­our to be made a life mem- ber but to have the fam­ily there was just amaz­ing,” Mr War­bur­ton said.

Club sec­re­tary Roy Scott said about 100 mem­bers and sup­port­ers at­tended the event, in­clud­ing Har­vey shire pres­i­dent Ta­nia Jack­son and For­rest MHR Nola Marino.
