Haven Magazine - - SCHOOL HOLS -

Kids take the lead role at HOTA, Home of the Arts these school holidays, with a mini-fest of fun scheduled from Sept 28 to Oct 1. “Kids Take Over” is the playful program planned for children and parents alike. HOTA CEO Criena Gehrke says the HOTA precinct will transform into the ultimate playground and a central hub of entertainment for four days during the school holidays. “Our program is all about expressing a sense of kids being in control. Think fun, chaotic and messy activities that appeal to the whole family and get your creative senses buzzing,” she says. Here’s what you can expect: HAIRCUTS BY CHILDREN: A group of 20 kids under the age of 10 will be given a crash course in hairdressing prior to taking the reins of their very own salon and offering free haircuts on The Terrace at HOTA! Are you brave enough?! CHILDREN ARE STINKY: Presented by Circus Trick Tease and featuring a talented acrobatic duo on a mission to prove that kids stink, this is a wild, laugh-out-loud show with riotous dare devil stunts and incredible circus skills all set to a 90s soundtrack. KIDS’ COMEDY HOUR: Enjoy a cracking line-up of comedy talent, music, adventure and magic at HOTA’S Arts Theatre, the likes of Randy Feltface, Madame Lark, Mickey D and Chores by Cluster Arts. BOXWARS: Art and destruction combine. Using nothing but cardboard to engineer a masterpiece, children and adults can join in the fun with a series of free workshops to construct mega mysterious creations and costumes that culminate in the battle of battles.

If you’ve got kids, the Gold Coast is where you want to be these spring school holidays – if only for the free haircuts!
