Coming Up:
Romeo & Juliet
Over the next couple of months, The Australian Ballet will present Romeo and Juliet in Australia’s major cities.
About
If you love to spend your afternoon or evening watching talented ballerinas on stage, then prepare for a fantastic time enjoying the beautiful tragedy of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Be amazed as choreographer John Cranko brings the well-renowned play to life on stage with The Australian Ballet. The classic love story will follow the same fate as the original play, with themes of love, rivalry, and murder following two star-crossed lovers as they face forbidden love.
Generations of The Australian Ballet have been raised watching Romeo and Juliet on stage since the academy premiered the performance in 1962, with many of the cast fulfilling their dream roles in this upcoming performance. Expect to see passion and hear composer Sergei Prokofiev’s work during the performance alongside John Cranko’s drama filled choreography that follows the Capulet’s ball, the rivalries of the two families, and the young doomed romance. The ballet will evoke emotion from audiences as the cast and crew have captured the essence of medieval Verona, and will leave viewers entranced long after the ballet concludes.
The experience
The production will premiere in Melbourne from Friday, 7 October and in Sydney Thursday, 1 December. The ballet will also be available to live stream on Tuesday, 18 October 2022, for people who are unavailable to get to the capital cities.
