THE BEATLES

Herald Sun - Hit - - MUSIC - /JAMES WIGNEY

(EMI) The most experimental and eclectic of all The Beatles’ releases, the White Album — remixed here by Giles Martin from the original tapes — is also traditionally regarded as the soundtrack to a band collapsing under the weight of its own greatness. But listening to the outtakes and demos on this 50th anniversary release is a timely reminder of a vital collaboration of genius songwriters, bursting with a creativity that couldn’t possibly be contained on one album.
