When I got back from London in 2006 I stayed with a girl in Sydney for a torrid week. Each morning she played Sufjan Stevens loud, the sun snuck in, she’d grind fresh herbs and we’d start again. It was the most gripping, soulenveloping music I’d heard. Grand Salvo’s seventh album gives me those delicious shivers as he walks us along the beach with one set of footprints, channling woke, baroque-folk, splintering relationship and a 10-minute journey to the abyss In the Water. Masterful. noteworthy TRY THIS IF YOU LIKE … Cat Stevens, Bon Iver
