Landmark endeavour

Bold development accentuates the attraction of a new way of living, writes

- Nathan Mawby

An Armadale project where prices are expected to top $10m is the latest vision of a development group headed by a former Goldman Sachs executive director.

The 24-apartment complex, dubbed Monument, is peerlessly positioned opposite Orrong

Romanis Reserve.

And it will match its beautiful outlook with an architectural aesthetic its creators hope will cement it as a landmark.

Dean Lefkos spent nine years at the helm of vaunted investment firm Goldman Sachs before co-founding Chapter Group. He said while he always favoured bricks-and-mortar investment, the firm’s latest project would be a step up.

“We think it will be a bit of a landmark,” he said.

Mr Lefkos said the building’s design was a bold yet modern take on Armadale’s typically refined, older architecture. But it was also carefully considered to accommodate postpandemic lifestyles: maximising the space on offer and making the best use of sightlines to take in natural light and green views of the park opposite.

“Our smallest apartments start at 130-140sq m. But the average is closer to 180-200sq m,” he said.

“It’s a premium location and the market is looking for a larger product where they know they can spend more time at home if they have to.”

The development will have two components to it: a seven-storey and four-storey element. Both will have a penthouse set to feature a pool at the top.

Bronze screening adds an architectural flourish to the predominantly white design by

K2LD Architects, while touches of greenery will soften its apex.

All apartments will include bleached oak floors, a fireplace, designer wardrobe joinery and stone surfaces.

The kitchens will feature Gaggenau appliances and Liebherr fridges, island benches that span up to 4m, and Hansgrohe tapware.

Home office spaces have been meticulously planned, down to the backdrop they will provide for video calls.

Construction on the 608 Orrong Road development is expected to start later this year.

Two-bedroom apartments are priced from $1.895m-$3.195m and three-bedroom offerings cost $1.995m-$4.895m. The penthouses cost $8.695m and $10.695m.
