Herald Sun - - NEWS - JAMES DOWLING

AN official with a militant building union has been fined $44,000 after he threatened to blockade a level crossing site.

Construction, Forestry, Mining, Maritime and Energy Union official Joseph Myles must pay the fine from his own pocket after he threatened the builder with a blockade if it hired a subcontractor the union was in dispute with.

It is the second time the Federal Court has fined Mr Myles after action by the building industry watchdog.

The Federal Court also fined the CFMMEU $250,000.

The Australian Building and Construction Commission took action against Mr Myles and the union after he warned there would be “trouble” if Clifton Formwork worked on the Springvale Rd level crossing project in 2013. The court found Mr Myles persuaded workers to illegally abandon shifts and went on site twice without proper paperwork.
