AN Albanian drug smuggler took part in a live TV show interview from his jail cell in Britain using an illegally held mobile phone.

Afrim Imeraj, 34, made a Skype call to a prime-time series in his home country. He said he had gone to the UK illegally and was arrested in London for drugs offences.

The prisoner, on remand while he waits to be sentenced, called the show to appeal for information about his wife and two daughters he said had disappeared.

He said his relationship with his partner had broken down by the time he was arrested in March 2017. At the end of the Without A Trace program, host Odeta Dume thanked him for “joining us via Skype”.

She added: “In London, it is illegal to have a telephone in jail so I would suggest that you switch off your telephone now because you could get punished heavily.”

Imeraj’s mother-in-law had called in to say his girls were in Germany.
