Woolies Christmas cheer
WOOLWORTHS has beaten key rival Coles over the crucial Christmas trading period for the third year in a row, according to a new analysis.
And the lure of promotions such as Coles Little Shop is beginning to wane among shoppers, a report by investment bank Morgan Stanley says.
Like-for-like sales at Woolworths are estimated to have grown by 3 per cent for the three months ending December, the bank said in a note to clients.
Coles could only manage a 2 per cent rise, the note said.
The like-for-like measure is a closely watched industry metric which adjusts sales for stores opening and closing.
Coles brought back Little Shop for Christmas.
