When it comes to decorating your home, it’s as simple as black and white. Stick to classic monochrome for a classic and effortlessly chic look

When it comes to colour co-ordinating for anything, whether it be interior design or fashion, there is no combination that works quite as well as black and white.

Opting for decor in a monochromatic scheme creates a contemporary yet timeless look of sophistication that works with any future additions to your home.

But while some people may perceive monchrome to be montonous, it doesn’t have to be.

With the right combination of textures and designs, along with a good balance of the two shades, you can take a room from basic to beautiful.

Start with your foundation furniture such as a classic sofa and build from there.

Opt for a balance of 40 per cent white and 40 per cent black, with 10 per cent grey mixed in to add a little extra dimension.

Combine different textures such as marble, timber and wool, as well as a variety of prints in the same scheme for added interest.

Finally, utilise the power of metals for a pop of ‘colour’ and a hint of glamour.

A chrome vase or copper feature light can add a great focal point and really lift this look.
