Fine tuning for award

Hills Gazette (Kalamunda) - - NEWS -

YOUNG musicians from local high schools wowed hundreds of people during a fundraising event this month with live performances of popular songs and movie soundtracks.

Students from Guildford Grammar, Helena College and Swan View and Eastern Hills high schools showcased their talents by playing tracks from Star Wars and the Beatles to Brahms and Chopin.

The concert at the Eastern Hills theatre raised more than $2000 for the Robert Juniper Award for the Arts.

Applications for the prestigious award, valued up to $9000, close on September 30, with the winner announced in December.

The award is presented annually by the Mundaring Bicentennial Scholarship Trust to a young artist up to 35 years old in the Shire of Mundaring who needs financial assistance.

Visit mundaringarts. org, or call Trust secretary Chris Durrant on 9299 6093.

Money for the award comes from a contribution from the Shire of Mundaring, supplemented by fundraising events and subscriptions from Friends of the Trust.
