I Remember When...
CAN you remember your last day of high school?
I can still remember walking out of the Br Laurence Murphy Gym at La Salle College on my final day of Year 12.
The daily routine of school and the holidays that came with it had come to an end and it was out into the real world to fend for myself.
I was fortunate enough to have received an invitation recently from La Salle College to attend the launch of the book Making A Difference to celebrate the college’s first 60 years from 1954 to 2014.
Former principal and historian Clem Mulcahy has done a fantastic job in creating the publication that covers the historical aspects of La Salle College since its foundation in 1954. The memories came back for me as I caught up with my two pastoral care advisors from my five years there – Ms De Fillippi and Mr Sorgiovanni – as well as many other teachers who I had an association with while at the college.
I had not seen many since I left the college and they knew who I was and are big fans of the Remember Midland Facebook page. I was introduced to a former head girl of the college before my time. She too was a fan of Remember Midland and appreciated the video that was posted on the page of a drive along Great Northern Highway in Midland in 1991.
This brought back memories for her, especially during her time at the college and the Midland she remembers growing up in. La Salle has certainly played its role in the history of the Midland area and continues to do so today.
I can say that I still hold great memories of my time there and to attend a school with a rich history contributed to my passion for local history today.
