Markovic extracts plenty of gold in Ballarat
KALAMUNDA driver Brad Markovic has made a positive start to his 2018 Australian Rally Championship (ARC) campaign, finishing first in ARC2 and sixth outright at the Eureka Rally in Ballarat.
The WA driver was in great form at the March 3-4 rally following a seven-month layoff due to back surgery.
With only one short test session before the event, Markovic surprised himself by setting a top-5 time during Saturday’s morning stages, and completing the first leg in sixth.
“It was a really solid start to the year,” Markovic said after the podium presentation.
“I was a bit rusty early on. But it didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things.
“My back held up really well. I had a little bit of pain today, but overall it’s feeling really good.”
Subaru driver John O’Dowd, of Gooseberry Hill, finished in 10th place.
“I really struggled to find a good feeling in the car,” he said.
Marcovic’s next event is round two of the Australian Rally Championship, the Forest Rally.
O’Dowd and the Maximum Motorsport crew are preparing for the Karri Rally, the first round of the WA Rally Championship.
The Karri Rally will based south of Manjimup on March 24 and the Forest Rally, based around Busselton and Nannup, will start on April 27.
