Penneshaw is 127 kilometres, by road and water, south of Adelaide Secret beaches, wild animal encounters, pristine wilderness, and weird and wonderful landscapes await on Australia’s third-largest island. Kangaroo Island sits just off the southern coastline of South Australia and can easily be reached via a comfortable 45-minute ferry journey from Cape Jervis with Sealink. Over one-third of this natural paradise is national park, and it is liberally dotted with dramatic cliffs and rock formations, epic sand dunes, lush wetlands and endless stretches of sugar-white sand.

Spend your days splashing in the neon blue waters of Vivonne Bay, Stokes Bay or Emu Bay, some of Australia’s most beautiful beaches. When you surface, there’s so much more fun in store on dry land. Hoot and holler as you sandboard the epic dunes of Little Sahara, or kayak along the Harriet River, teeming with wildlife and native birds. Two of the must-see landmarks include the Remarkable Rocks, incredible rock formations that are like something out of a sculptor’s dreamscape, and Admirals Arch, accessed by a boardwalk from the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse.

With a name like Kangaroo Island, it’s unsurprising that you’ll spot your fair share of the hopping marsupials while here. What’s more, you’re just as likely to see fur seals, sea lions, koalas, penguins and whales, all doing what they do best in their natural environments.
