With its tin shed-inspired form, Fiona’s modern home speaks within an Australian vernacular. “It’s not complicated,” says judge Drew Heath. “It sits within our memories of the landscape.” This sense of ease is carried through with the country palette of corrugated iron and Modwood ‘Flame Shield’ decking (above). As Drew’s fellow judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen sees it, the materials of its context were used in the construction. “It’s not trying to upstage the backdrop – it’s very polite, comfortable and comforting, but also a very exciting structure,” says Laurence. “I’ll have one!”
