CORRUGATED STEEL
While many still refer to this type of cladding as corrugated iron, it’s all about sturdy steel – the days of the rusty old shed or tin roof are well in the past, as team member Fiona’s bush home in country Victoria shows (below). “Corrugated iron, or as I call it, ‘wriggling tin’, speaks with an Australian vernacular,” says Laurence. “It will age nicely, becoming part of the landscape.” For this type of cladding, Colorbond is a popular choice and is available in a range of colours and profiles from slim ribs to deep corrugations, and can be installed vertically or horizontally. The steel, which comes in a variety of grades to suit environmental conditions, is treated and then primed and painted.
