INTO THE WOODS

Architect Mathias and his wife, Sonja, used seven different types of timber in the lakeside home they created for their family. The result is a welcoming and sustainable cottage that blends in with the surrounding environment. The exterior (below) was built with aspen wood, which has already turned silvery grey, and the decking with Douglas fir. The living area (opposite) shows the home’s natureinspired palette, and features furniture Mathias inherited from his grandmother (the coffee table and sofa), as well as one of the few pieces the couple bought new – the ash and canvas Nikari ‘December XL’ chair, available from Finnish Design Shop.
