Seriously pretty in rose-pink upholstery, the ‘Dreamer’ sofa from Pop & Scott sets the ambient tone. “This colour can be very flattering,” says House Rules judge and interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen “When you sit on a pink sofa you are swathed in warm light.” As well as being the perfect shade for Sean and Ella’s living room, it’s also perfectly positioned so the couple can enjoy their ultra-sleek Panasonic ‘TH58DX700A’ 58-inch TV with the ‘SC-ALL70T’ soundbar.

THE RUNDOWN It’s hard to imagine that a truly bespoke home could be pulled together in just seven days. Personality takes time to build and bloom. But then the Tasmanian home of 24-year-old paramedics Sean and Ella, in the afterglow of a dramatic House Rules renovation, found its way into the spotlight and proved that miracles can happen. Before the teams worked their magic on the engaged couple’s 1960s house, it was a perfect storm of cracked windows, rust, mould and next-to no sound protection from the nearby highway. Shift worker Sean recalls shivering through the cold Tasmanian winter, weary from lack of sleep, thinking they were in over their heads. “Although we had bought the house with the intention to renovate it ourselves, we were quickly coming to the realisation that it needed a lot more work than we first anticipated and we just didn’t have the money or time to do it,” he says. The home’s drawcard came in the form of the picture-perfect view over Mount Wellington, the Derwent River and out to Bruny Island, along with the close proximity to Hobart’s CBD and the lashings of all-day sun. Post-renovation, Ella is thrilled to have her old home opened up to its best assets with a new free-flowing layout. “We were so excited to see our open-plan living, dining and kitchen space overlooking our beautiful view,” she says. “The outlook was the main reason why we bought the house, so to see it embraced was so exciting.” From the handcrafted light fittings to the parquetry walls and splashes of an incredibly chic rosy shade throughout the home, the HR teams have turned the space into a stylish haven for the young couple to share as they begin married life. Sean and Ella are tickled pink. “We can’t wait to entertain our friends and family here,” says Ella.
