Grounded by large-format ‘Compact’ 600mm x 300mm porcelain floor tiles in inky Graphite from Ital Ceramics, a sea of crisp white on the walls maximises the room’s sense of space and freshness (previous page). “We used these dark grey tiles for a classic and timeless look, and they tie in with the bluestone paving outside as well,” says interior designer Fiona Austin. “The white wall tiles are also timeless but, rather than plain tiles, we selected the Japanese tiles with a lovely texture.”

The generously sized double shower features a duo of sleek ‘Mero’ free-fix rail shower sets (above & previous page) teamed with a Waterose ‘Spin Round’ shower rose, all from Rogerseller. Built-in recesses provide handy storage nooks for shower essentials. “We prefer to use niches where possible, rather than shelves, as they do not protrude,” says Fiona.
SUBTLE LIGHTING
A replica ‘Romeo Moon S2’ fluted glass suspension lamp (try Matt Blatt) casts a gentle glow over an adjoining dressing room (above), while a ‘Porcelight’ mini pendant from Cult illuminates the vanity. “The pendant gives the bathroom the ‘mood’ of the room, providing a softer light than overhead LED lights,” says Fiona. “They also add an extra layer of detail so that the bathroom does not feel sterile or cold.”
