1 Sophisticated doesn’t mean serious – introduce pops of colour for fun and interest. 2 A child’s room with bookshelves encourages reading because the books are right there for them. 3 Storage is key – but the right storage. There is no point if the kids can’t access it, otherwise you’re going to be the one getting things out and putting stuff away. 4 I love art in a child’s room. I had some original Disney drawings that I got framed and held onto for 10 years before I even had kids! 5 Furniture is one element you want them to be able to grow up with, so make sure you have at least five years of life in what you choose. I’m not a fan of themed furniture – it has such a use-by date.
