Who lives here:

Belinda, an interior designer at Gallerie B; her husband, Dan, who works in funds management; their daughters, Lucy, 13, and Mia, 10; and Harry the Maltese terrier.

Why the new build?

Belinda: “I’d been planning this house in my head for many years. We loved Melbourne’s east but couldn’t find anything to my taste. So we bought a knockdown and created something in its place that ticked all the boxes.”

Tips for home builders?

“The building process — and level of detail required — is crazy. I liken it to pregnancy and childbirth — you forget the pain and you’re left with an amazing reward in the end.” What room are you particularly happy with? “The kitchen is a space we spend a lot of time in, so that’s where we went all out.”
