Home Beautiful

Ed’s letter Sarah likes a little luxury living

- sarah SARAH BURMAN, EDITOR

It’s a huge issue this month – I’m so thrilled to report that we’ve pulled out all the stops to share some truly glamorous spaces and ideas with you in a gorgeous special issue, because – well, why not? We all deserve to indulge in a bit of inspiration from time to time! In true Home Beautiful fashion, we do have an ulterior motive – we know that many of you don’t live in huge homes, and that you want some ideas on how to make apartment life, and downsized living, work for you. The reason we know this? Because you tell us, and because many of us on the team (including myself) don’t own a large home either. So we thought, how can we bring these two concepts together: smaller space living, and Home

Beautiful’s signature style? The answer is: with a little pinch of luxe... (or a big pinch, depending on your budget).

To begin, our style team devised a project initially known as ‘If you could only have one thing’, the idea being that one investment piece could act as your statement maker and elevate a whole room’s decorating story (Style In The Spotlight, page 123). Then we searched the globe to find a renovated apartment the likes of which we’d never shown you before, discovering an incredible home with a smaller footprint in Canada, where its interior designer owners have showcased their innovative flair for pattern and drama in luxurious style. See it on page 112 – of course, we’ve shared all the details we can to help you re-create the look at home. And finally, we pulled together some features to help you find, choose and design your rooms – voilà! Our first ever Luxury Living Special.

There’s a lot more to love in the issue, too – we’re launching the first in a three-part decorating series with the ever-popular Scandi look (I want to buy everything), from page 163; we delve deep into the pros and cons of off-the-rack kitchens and bespoke ones too (page 171) and there’s not one, but two entertaining features from page 193 – absolutely mouthwatering Italian dishes and simple yet delicious breakfasts. As always, it’s been a challenge and a joy to pull this beautiful issue together – and we hope you love it.

PS. We haven’t forgotten Mum this issue! Check out our gift guide (page 36), and stunning floral arrangements from page 40.

Find a focal piece to give you luxury living for less; this ‘Atollo 233’ lamp (top left) is a statement-making stunner. Who doesn’t love an Italian dish? This scrumptious prawn pasta (left) is as simple as it is delicious.
