Is there anything nicer than curling up under the covers in winter? First, swap summer’s cool linens for sheets in flannel or cotton jersey. For the top of the bed, interior stylist Emma Blomfield recommends layering up. “Have warm scatter cushions with feather inserts on the bed, along with a chunky knitted throw rug,” she suggests. Once again, texture is key. “Layer rich velvets, decorative cotton chenille and soft, shaggy faux furs,” says Emily Treganowan from Linen House. “Combining nostalgic hues such as soft blush and lavender with rich shades of emerald, teal, indigo or wine will add depth and warmth.” Cushions add comfort, but can be a controversial topic.

“I’m not one for multitudes of scatter cushions,” says Simone Haag. “I think a lovely quilt which goes all the way to the floor, with two simple pillows, is really beautiful.” To make this look winter-worthy, choose a heavy quilted blanket for swaddled comfort.
