Ed’s letter Sarah shares some personal news

- sarah SARAH BURMAN, EDITOR

As the temperature drops, I find nothing more satisfying than snuggling up under a throw rug on the couch at the end of the day, lighting up the fire and enjoying a warming cup of tea. It’s heaven on earth. Another great joy in Australia at this time of year – at least in Sydney, where I live – are those clear winter days, when being outside in the fresh air and catching the sunshine on your face is pure bliss. Hence, our stunning cover this month – the ultimate cosy space for outdoors! To celebrate the best of this season, we’ve pulled together a little special on decorating for the cooler months, plus tips and tricks for heating winter abodes, from page 119.

The other thing that happens to me about two minutes after the cool change hits is the desire to go somewhere beachy and warm. In fact, a lot of Australians head off overseas at this time of year, so we thought it timely to launch our first ever travel special, where you’ll discover all the hot design destinations across the globe, culminating in our senior stylist Rachel Peters’ gorgeous decorating shoot. She shot on location in Marrakesh as well as here in Australia, so you can re-create this right-on-trend look from local stockists. See it from page 40.

If you haven’t yet tuned in, I’d encourage you to also check out the new web series, Cooks Co-op, at homebeautiful.com.au. In this issue, we share the delicious recipes cooked with food local to the Hawkesbury region in NSW, crafted by acclaimed executive chef Martin Boetz (from page 152). We’re also continuing our coverage of Channel Seven’s House Rules, stepping outside as the competition moves into the exterior rounds. These backyards are jam-packed with ideas worth checking out (from page 180).

Finally, a personal note – I’m about to head off for a few months on maternity leave! I’ve been very focused these last few weeks on creating a cosy winter haven for my growing family, with our baby due to arrive shortly after this issue hits the newsstands. I leave you in the very capable hands of Katrina O’Brien – the woman responsible for crafting our stunning homes section every month – who will do a wonderful job leading our amazing Home Beautiful team until I get back.

I’ll miss you all – see you again next year.
